Maybe it’s just me, but there seems to be a trend towards parodying the lifestyles and lives of some of South Africa’s (for want of a better word) zeffer elements. Over the past year the number of acts, musos and YouTube video clips featuring mullets, tank tops, glitter and Benoni-esque accents has gone through the roof, and I’m loving it. Guys like Jack Parow and Die Antwoord all play on the generalisations and stereotypes that we all love to embrace, leaping over the line of political correctness and slapping us in the face with their wicked brand of self-deprecating humour. And now it seems we have a new crew joining the ranks of the zef and the knee-slappingly funny.
Well at least I hope so. Calling themselves the Skoltimaier 7even, this family outfit claim to hail from Benoni and are making massive in-roads into the birthday party and corporate function market. I’m not exactly sure what this clip is about, but it’s worth a gander and I suspect could go viral very quickly…
Update: It seems the clip may be part of a Wimpy campaign. They’re giving away glasses. The production company was Velocity. Nicely done clip, it will be interesting to see where they go with it.
