The seventeen-year-old was competing in a mountain bike race at Albert Falls Dam when a Red Hartebeest collided with him. Fellow racer Travis Walker was behind him and filmed it as it happened. Although you don’t see Travis in the footage, you do hear him. He will now forever be known as the ‘Holy Cow guy’!

Luckily, Evan only had a strained neck and was otherwise uninjured, thanks to his helmet. The video has made news worldwide.

[singlepic id=158 w=130 h=130 float=left]Yesterday YouTube announced on their blog that they have added a new territory to their list of Locations, yes you’ve guessed it… South Africa.

So… when you next visit YouTube, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will be able to choose South Africa as your current location. Obviously, if you are not in SA this may not be of interest… but check it out anyway!

[singlepic id=156 w=640 h=427 float=center]

What will this actually mean to us… the good residents of South Africa? YouTube states that ‘from now on when users in South Africa visit the localized site they will see, for example, the Most Popular and Most Viewed videos in South Africa along with local content that closely matches their interests’. I think this will probably be the main benefit for the average “YouTuber” like you or me.

YouTube also believes that ‘South Africa-based channels like Freshlyground and Khayav should enjoy more profile locally, and at the same time should also find it easier to identify other local users.’

YouTube seems to be rather happy about expanding their empire, and I for one am happy we are now included in the buzzing YouTube community.

Because awareness is the first step on the road to action. But you have to wonder what sort of backlash you’re going to experience when your PR firm is getting publicity of it’s own. Especially when it’s as negative as this.Techcrunch is an awesome blog with a lot of people following it. They’re also opinionated and mouthy, but it works for them. They’re always well informed and thorough and not afraid to own up to their own mistakes so instead of coming across as arrogant and lame they appear the opposite.

They posted an article entitled Death to the Embargo, which flames pretty much the whole PR industry and effectively gives them the middle finger.

If they feel this strongly about the PR firms and it’s leaving a bad taste in their mouths, you have to wonder how many other publications, digital or otherwise, feel the same way, and how much of that ill will spills over to the PR companies’ clients.

It makes sense to hire a PR company everyone likes, or at the very least, respects.

A place to share random thoughts, musings, creative titbits from the interweb, and any of the numerous ideas, conversations, brain farts etc that are generated in our office on a daily basis. Awesome idea isn’t it! But wait…

By default this also makes me a bonafide blogger, a member of the worldwide community of people on their digital soapboxes. I’m not sure what my soapbox looks like, or exactly what I’ll be saying whilst perched uncomfortably on top of it. In my head its all going to be wonderful though. Grand thoughts, wrapped in sound insight and delivered on a tray of wit and humour. People will LOL. Some may cry. In reality these random musings may end up the digital equivalent of talking to myself. Who knows?

All I know is that I have a soap box, and with these nervous, awkward words, am no longer a blogging virgin. Hope it was good for you.
