Hovering, Not Art Directors
If you’re at all involved with advertising, marketing or any sort of collaborative creative process, you’ll be familiar with the experience: the over the shoulder opinion giver.
Similar to backseat driving, it’s a frequent occurrence in most agencies. So much so that the term “Hovering Art Director” has become a near universally recognised one. There’s even a Tumblr dedicated to it.
Neither of these two are Art Directors (Craig’s actually the one taking the photo) but they’ve clearly seen him do it, because they’ve executed it perfectly! Notice, if you will, the flawlessly completed Pensive Chin Tap Dean is demonstrating. Extra style points for using a pen.
